The history
The Wild Alps Distillers

In 2016, inspired by a creative break at Villa Maund in the Alps, we founded ‘THE WILD ALPS DISTILLERS’.

Since then, we have been producing handmade whisky, rum, gin and vodka in our manufactory in the Swiss Rhine Valley.

Our claim? Unique flavour experiences!

We use the best raw materials, distil in traditional pot stills and refine everything with fresh spring water from the Swiss Alps. From design to bottling - we do everything ourselves.

Our labels, designed by Theresia on velvety ‘textile paper’, are inspired by the legendary textile prints on velvet by William Morris. They feel just as good as our spirits taste.

The stories behind our brands?

MAUND Rum and MAUND Whisky are a tribute to Sir John Oakley Maund, the adventurer and builder of Villa Maund.

Our motivation and inspiration

Our goal is to create unique taste experiences by using the best raw materials and refining them with traditional craftsmanship. Each of our products embodies the essence of the classic art of distillation.

In our factory in the Swiss Rhine Valley, we personally take care of product development, design, distillation, storage and bottling. We source our botanicals from medicinal herb experts and organic farmers. These are distilled in traditional pot stills and then reduced to drinking strength with pure spring water from the Swiss Alps.

Our labels, which are based on textile prints from William Morris' workshops, were designed by Theresia on special, velvety "textile paper" and also give our products a special tactile touch.

In 2016, during a creative break in the Alps, as guests at the "Villa Maund" - a property owned by a long-time family friend - we decided to realize our ideas and found the company "THE WILD ALPS DISTILLERS". Our factory specializes in the production of whisky, rum, gin and vodka.

The stories of William Morris and Sir John Oakley Maund, both closely associated with the British-Scottish style Maund Estate and Villa Maund, inspired our product range and design.

The brand name MORRIS for our London Dry Gins honors the visionary William Morris, an important English creative of the 19th century. His work, strongly influenced by nature, and his founding of the "Arts and Crafts Movement" to promote craftsmanship, were formative for us.

We chose Sir John Oakley Maund as the namesake for MAUND Rum and MAUND Whisky. He was the builder of the Villa Maund, a stately hunting estate in the British-Scottish cottage style, built in 1892. This estate, located in one of the largest hunting grounds in the Alps, serves as our inspiration for our alpine interpretation of whisky and the search for the best rum. Sir John Oakley Maund was also an enthusiastic mountaineer and member of the legendary "Alpine Club" in London.

The Hellfire Touring Club

The mysterious Hell Fire Touring Club is a secret brotherhood founded by Paul Renner - painter, actionist, dandy and grand master of the club, together with Medlar Lucan and Durian Gray. Where? In the legendary Villa Maund, of course.

Renner resided there for a decade, between art, decadent pleasure and encounters that remained hidden.

One of these ‘profound’ gastrosophical conversations ultimately led to the founding of
